Making your own cards is how you learn. That is true, and it is also not an argument against AI flashcards, if the AI leaves the deciding to you.
Writing a card forces you to decide what matters on the slide and how to ask about it. That decision is the learning. A tool that hands you a finished deck takes it away, and most AI flashcard tools do exactly that.
Split the work in two. Deciding what the question is, and typing it out. The first is the encoding. The second is transcription. Twenty minutes of typing per lecture was never doing anything for your memory; it was the price of getting to the deciding.
Reading a proposed card and judging whether it is the right question is the deciding, kept. You still choose. You just do not type.
Three things, and they are checkable:
